About Verna
Verna builds software to help people manage land in the best way for the environment – enhancing biodiversity and drawing down carbon, whilst making sustainable returns.
We have built the market-leading software for Biodiversity Net Gain – England’s revolutionary new approach to data-driven nature recovery, which is spreading across the world. Our B2B SaaS app, Mycelia, is in daily use by ecologists and planners to get the best outcomes for BNG projects.
Verna has recently finalised a multi-million-pound fundraise, to help accelerate the growth of the company – and the impact we can have – over the coming years.
Role
We are looking for a Product Manager to develop and lead our product management approach. This role involves introducing best-in-class processes, systems and practices for product management, enabling us to deliver products and features that support and delight users in a consistent and timely fashion.
This is an important role in a fast-growing and innovative business, that is increasingly regarded as a leader in nature-tech. Your compensation will include share options, enabling you to share in the company’s success.
The successful candidate will work directly with Co-CEO Matthew Brown and CTO Ian Dickinson.
We currently operate as a remote team, with London office bases available including through our place on the Geovation accelerator programme. The whole team meets in person every 4-6 weeks. The co-founders spend roughly one day per week in London together, and this role will be welcome to join those days and to be office-based for as many days per week as desired.
Like ecosystems, teams are more vibrant, innovative, and resilient when they are more diverse. We welcome applications from everyone.
Responsibilities
This role is ultimately focused on ensuring that we can efficiently create products that have a transformational effect for our users – and therefore drive our business, and nature recovery efforts globally, forward at pace.
We are a seed-stage start-up, early in our product journey, so this is an opportunity to develop our product processes and have a significant influence on how we do product management. Additionally, at this stage of our growth all team members can also contribute across the business, wherever they see opportunities to add value.
As a result, the responsibilities listed here are a starting set, to be evolved in collaboration with the role-holder.
- Develop a deep understanding of our current and target users, and their contexts and needs, including through spending significant time in direct contact with users.
- Support the leadership team to evolve and develop the product vision and strategy, and to maintain a product roadmap which is aligned with the strategy.
- Drive the development and rollout of new features through an end-to-end product management process, including research and discovery, specification and design, user testing and iteration, rollout, and analysis of impact.
- Work closely with the CTO and the Engineering team to facilitate delivery, including (but not limited to) managing the backlog- and roadmap-level kanbans.
- Collaborate with Customer Success, to help users understand and get the most value from the product, and to feed user feedback into the product process.
- Work closely with the founders, and other colleagues, to support sales and go-to-market activities, e.g. by generating assets to support sales processes and by factoring sales-driven priorities into roadmap prioritisation.
About you
We care much more about the person you are, and how you think and approach things, vs a list of qualifications and buzzwords. If you are smart, self-motivated, and passionate about this role then get in touch – even if you can’t yet say “yes” to all of the points below.
- Mission alignment: You share our mission to help address the climate and nature crises through better land management.
- Product management experience within B2B/B2G SaaS: Knowledge and experience of best practices and a track record of implementing them.
- Deep user focus: Interest and drive to deeply understand users and create products that change their working lives.
- Data analysis: Ability to use data-driven processes for decision-making and delivery management.
- Self-starter: Ability to drive improvements and actions forward in a start-up environment.
- Team player: Work well as part of a team, proactively collaborating with colleagues, including domain experts e.g. engineers, ecologists.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills: Able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
